GREAT Data Acquisition
Data Acquisition and Control
- Implemented within a distributed computing environment
- All items to be controlled or monitoring are accessed via
an ethernet LAN.
- Uses Internet Protocols (UDP/IP & TCP/IP)
- The client-server model which is used to build a network of workstations
is followed and the data acquisition modules become additional resources on
that network
- Experimental control, data readout and real time monitoring of data quality are performed using processors within VME
- Inline data processing and real-time event construction are performed using a multi-processor PC running Linux
- Online data processing and analysis performed using UNIX workstations
- Graphical User Interface using UNIX workstations or Windows PCs
- No master workstation or Central DataBase
