VME Hardware Configuration

All VME modules must first be configured correctly by setting the appropiate switches.

CAEN Digitial ADCs

Select Module Type = CAEN V1740 etc from the list of available modules
Each module within a module type group must have a different Module Index.

The CAEN Digitizers can be accessed either via the VME bus (for example using A2818 and V2718) or via the CAEN optical link (CONET). Modules using VME bus should have a unique A32 base address set via the onboard rotary switches (normally A16 and 24 are not used and should be left at 0). Modules using CONET are addressed via the module physical position on the optical loop and the onboard base address switches should be set to 0.

For VME access set VME address A16 = 0; A24 = 0 and A32 to the VME base address selected by switches for the module.
NOTE - the base address MUST be less than 0x80000000.
For CONET access set the VME A32 address to 0x80xy0000 where x is the CONET link number (= 0 for A2818) and y is the CONET module number (position on optical loop in range 0 => 7).
The software uses the MSB (0x80000000) to indicate that access is via CONET.

Click on the button Add Module as each module in the VME crate is added.

Click on the button Save Configuration to preserve the configuraion table and click on the button Restore Configuration to reload the previously saved configuration.

Finally click on the button Activate Configuration in order to build the software registers for all modules in the configuration. This will erase any existing software configuration loaded.
